The Dangerously Good Blog

Welcome to "The Dangerously Good Blog"

My name is Rob. I Have been making things professionally for over 28 years. Starting off in my farther's business and eventually on my own. During that time I have amassed a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare.. ..erm, I mean very useful for people like you. (If you don't get the "Taken" reference, shame on you, watch more movies), I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you.

Jokes aside it's true I have been making for decades and it's about time I stepped out the shadows and show people outside of my little corner of the world what I make. That's the reason I decided to start this blog.

I won the English Rivera Award for pushing past the limits of 3d design.
I'm Award Winningly Dangerously Good

I make with a designed purpose.

During my time working with my Dad and other people I did manage to pick up 'those particular set of skills'. That includes Brickwork, Carpentry and Plastering.

As well as being able to fit a door, or render your wall, I push beyond my limits and mix it up with my degree level design skills. I truly believe construction skills are transferable between disciplines. For example; once you learn plastering, you know the basics of rendering and once you can spread 'muck' on a wall, tiling comes next. Construction skills almost have their own kind of tree diagram associated with them, linking skills to each other to create another discipline.

So knowing that, what happens when you link together a construction tree with a strong design tree and add a spattering of basic engineering knowledge? ..You get a maker like me.

Dangerously Good Inspirations.

This is where I am supposed to say something like, Salvador Dhali inspired me to ... ..Well actually, I get inspired by the places I go and the people I meet. Also simply by the process of playing with an idea. Either physically playing with it or just throwing it around in my mind. You could say; I am more of a playful Picasso who doesn't paint, than a Dhali who bends the laws of physics to make an idea work.

Open Source Mindset

I am an open source advocate. There I said it! To some people that's still as life altering as 'coming out'.

So it hits home... ..No, I don't use Microsoft 360 and won't buy into the Apple ecosystem. I am a Linux Penguin Lover through and through. Blender is my main and only 3D modelling package, and most of my notes are written in Nano. But yes I do have long hair and a beard.

If you are good at what you do and know what you want to create, you should be able to use the tools in front of you to express that idea. For example a writer is no better when using a posh fountain pen, than they are when they are using a Bic from the local Spar shop. For sanity's sake learn free tools people, and donate to your favourite projects when you can.

(Yes I will probably be writing about my deviancy into some yummy open sources in the future. )

Dangerously Good Ideas

Not only do i want to tell people about the creative things I make and do, I want to try and make money online, with the hope to make creativity my main source of income. Please take a look at my store (coming soon) and buy something or head over to my Facebook page to say Hi and/or subscribe to my YouTube channel;

I look forward to talking about your Dangerously Good Ideas soon. In the mean time Push past your limits!

Lots of love,
